Default Rattles

Hello, I have a small but noticable rattle in the gear shift area. It is actually hard to hear unless you drive the car w/out the stereo going for a while. If you flick you softly flick your fingernail against a piece of metal and that is kind of what it sounds like. Anyway I took my car to the shop and Honda says that it is actually the pressure plate causing the noise and that they have had two other S2000's making the same noise. They said that it can be replaced and that Honda has modified the new pressure plates to fit better but he did not recommend doing it right now since the car on has 4000 miles on it. I am just wondering if anyone else has encountered this same problem. Thanks for your help.

I have a similar problem, it sounds like the same thing actually - but its ONLY on decelerating between 4000 and 3000 rpm's in any gear. I dont have to turn off the radio to hear it either, its just more noticable that way. =/

I have a similar metalic noise- so I thought.
It's the admission.
Open the hood and push the the little lever on the rigth that has the throtlle cable connected and see- hear in this case - if the noise you've been hearing is reproduced.
The admission is lubrificated and sometimes the vapor oil is not enough and makes this noise.

Hi, what's an admission? What gets lubricated by vapor oil? I have a noise, and would definitely try what you're saying.

I've found that a good fix for any rattles in my S2K is to drop the top and drive a gear or two lower than normal... Can't hear a single rattle

2x6spds,

With admission, I meant air intake near the throtlle butterfly.

I get the same rattle if my foot is off the accelerator and I coast from 4000rpm - 3000rpm. The noise emanates from the pressure plate springs. Honda claims this a characteristic of the car.

I have had my 2006 S2000 only a couple of weeks and already had help with the soft top. Great forum. Perhaps someone has an idea on this. I have a loud rattle or clunk on the passenger side just about at the door post. It doesn't happen on large bumps like a railrod, but on small ones, and at low speed. Checked the spare tiedown and the tool storage. Nothing in the console compartments. Doesn't seem to have any performance or suspension effect. Thoughts welcome.

Do you fasten your passenger seat belt when you drive?
