Default Rear caliper help

Apparently I got my '06 (I don't there there is a difference between years - but just incase) calipers pretty hot at the track last weeked (go figure) and messed up the dust boots around the pistons on all 4 wheels. Since the car is mostly a street car with few track events I want to replace the seals. Fronts I'm sure I can do without to much difficulty but I'm concerned about pulling the rears apart. Can I do a partial rebuild, just pulling the piston out, replacing the piston seal and boot and poping it back in without messing with the parking brake mechanism and other internal parts?

Thanks much!

PM me your email address if you want a picture of the Helm's manual pages covering the rear caliper. It does not say much, but it is better than nothing.

you most certainly can. remember, the rear pistons are threaded so they screw out. should be a fairly simple job. i just rebuilt mine not too long ago, but FULL rebuild. thaaaaaat was fun....

That was one of my concerns but I don't need to go that far just to replace the seals do I? The piston should unscrew and then go back without messing with the inards right? (This is of course if I don't just decide to gut them for powder coat as long as I have them out .... How much does it cost to get that done anyway?)

no, to just replace the seals you can just take the piston out and not mess with the rest of it.

i don't know how much it would cost to have them powder coated, i did mine myself.

one thing i will tell you...powder coating will provide some insulation, and therefore retain more heat longer. if you're tracking your car, you may want to look at another option for coating; something like teflon maybe...

I made the mistake of powder coating my calipers. They did not even last for one intense track day. Now, I just leave them stock.
Then you must not have used high temp powder ......

I have 6 trackdays on my fronts and 4 days on my rear calipers w/o any issues.

for my brother for the excellent PC work.

I think I'll just clean 'em up real good, replace the seals and be done with it. Thanks for the advice folks.
