Default Rear clicking noise

Good morning guys,

A few days ago i beagin to notice a clicking noise coming from the rear. I have pin pointed it to the rear passenger wheel area. The noise could be best described as 1-2 clicks when launching the car moderately hard. The car is dropped on megan tracks, so I went ahead and made sure all the bolts on the coilover were tight, gave the wheel the "shake test" and the wheel did not move (indicating that wheel bearings are still fine), and made sure the lug nuts were tightened. However, this did nothing as the noise is still there. It only occurs when reversing out with moderate force or launching forward with moderate force. Its usually one click, but occasionally 2 clicks, with the second one being not nearly as loud as the first. I've read everything from half shafts to axle nuts being the possible culprit so I don't know where to start in diagnosing. The car in question is a MY04. Any thoughts on what the cause could me?

Thanks

this is common on S2000, you shake test wont work on s2000, our bearings are double roll bearings, not tapered.

here is how to fix the clicking noise: take the wheel out, take the axle nut out, oil the face of the nut, re-install the nut, torque it to 220ft/lbs.

Done.

I have nearly the same clicking noise on my00. I tried to remove the axle nut but the nut is a little crushed on one side (to provide it to loose) and I didn't succeeded to remove it. How do you proceed to remove this nut?

Thx!

It is best to unstake the nut to avoid damaging the thread.
Especially if you remove it to put grease behind the nut.
Use a screwdriver to unstake.

IMO if the clicking has been going on for a while, just tightning won't do much.
There are plenty of posts about the return of the click after a while.
You best pop the lower ball joint, remove axle, clean splines, put grease on spline, put silicone gasket on the face of the bearing mating the hub, install axle, balljoint, put grease on threads, retorque nut and stake it.

A lot more work, but doing things properly sometimes takes time & effort.

I didn't unstake mine, just grabbed a bigger breaker bar. Little grease under both sides, retorque, problem gone.

Its been clicking for about 3-4 days, not long at all. Going to try removing it, regreasing and tightening it to 220lb and see if it fixes the issue.
