snap-on sells a 3/8" drive 23mm socket that is small enough to fit on a socket wrench and still get on the fill bolt. thats what I use because a combo wrench will strip the bolt

that's odd.... i can get my socket and drive on there just fine without buying some snap-on special. you just gotta go in from the top not the bottom to the filler plug. and I just changed mine and both were a 24, but my old Diff they were a 23...

box end... the closed end, not the open end. but you can get a ratchet and socket in there, you just have to go in from the driver side of the diff at an angle, its a super tight fit.

double box end wrench

I think I misread the post.... sorry, I thought you were asking what the box end was.

its not a snap on special tool. Its just a 23mm 3/8" drive 6 point socket. craftsman's socket is 12 point and will strip the fill bolt.

My drain plug wrench is a 24mm 45deg offset box end Facom* wrench - it gets in the cramped drain area OK, and gets a perfect "bite" on the drain bolt. That drain bolt is unusual - it has a shallow head and appears to be zinc-coated. The fill plug is a typical Honda zinc-dichromate (gold) bolt.

*I know, I got a lot of shiznit for using a $50 wrench when a $10 one would do - but I am recouping my losses by charging a buck to let people hold a real F1 wrench. But my Mom may have just been nice in giving me the buck.

I did let MR294 and celeritas see them for free - I am a softie.
