Rear end help...Urgent!
I think my differential might be going out. I think I might of heard it making a wooshing sound while I drive if I go a few MPH and disengage the clutch. I took it home from where I was (30 miles) and jacked up the rear end. When I spin the rear wheels with it in gear the other rear wheel spins in the opposite direction freely.
Is this normal, or is something wrong with my differential?
I did a search and read a few old posts. They said to make a U turn and listen for grinding. I did that and it makes a click click sound over 5mph when I disengage the clutch, but i put it in nuetral and push the car, it doesn't make a click click sound. When I was getting back to my house, I heard the sound of a screw hitting pavement. I stopped and I found this on the ground, and it was warm (so it must be from my car and it has yellow paint on the head like all other honda bolts.

I jacked up the car and looked around, and this bolt goes to where the transmission bolts to the driveshaft. There is one more screw that is missing from it. Do you think that these 2 screws that fell out would be causeing the weird clicking sound?

That's strange it just came out, You should check to see if the others are tight with a 6mm allen wrench. Then have them replaced.

, Squeezer. Excellent observation finding the dropped bolt and locating the source.Could you snap a pic of where these bolts go next time you jack up the car? Maybe this is another example of incorrect torque specs at the factory.... Though, I haven't heard of anyone else posting about this.
Great catch!

Hey, when you put the new bolts in, check the joint by moving it round.
It should not feel gritty, and should have no play axially (Twisting). . . no play at all, but should still slide back and forth, also flexing (tipping)
If it is screwed, I might be able to get you a great deal on a prop shaft (I have an extra one
)
If you want a brand new one, bitch at the parts guy and they can/might bring the price down.
OH yeah, the joint is held together by a couple smaller allen bolts - check them too, Looks to me that's where grease could have come out!
