Default Rear End noise?

Hey guys i've recently noticed a noise coming from the rear of my Ap1. I sounds like it's coming from the drivers side. It sounds kind of like calipers not releasing the pads so i put the S on jackstands and checked the brakes...everything checked out good. I also checked for any play thinking maybe the wheel bearing but those also seem fine. When the car was on stands i started it and put it in gear allowing the wheels to spin freely...when doing this there was no noise. I did some research and i'm starting to think it's the cv joints. Also, the noise goes away when I'm in gear and on the gas but comes back if coasting in/out of gear with no load... Any suggestions? The car has 96,XXX...only mods are Skunk2 springs..17x9 rpf1's..no driveshaft spacer.

Sad to say, it could be the pinion and thus the rear end may be nearing it's death.

What kind of noise? Popping, grinding, squealing? All of the above?

If it's popping I'd try torqueing the axle nuts to 220ftlb, if that doesn't work it could be a pitted CV joint.

If it's grinding... iew

If it's squealing... maybe a iew

yeah, if it a whine its most likely bearing noise, and if it is a grinding it may be gear noise, when my axles started to go bad, i could feel a rumble in the seat when acc. You need to be more specific with what kind of noise it is.

Sorry for not being specific...The best way i can describe it is that at first i thought i might have been a caliper slightly sticking. Not really a "popping" or rumble...more like an annoying grind but not a constant metal on metal grind. Seems like it comes on at intervals of the wheel rotating...if that makes any sense lol. ex."Grind.....grind....grind"...every 2-3 seconds. It goes away when I accelerate or slightly on the gas. Come back when coasting in/out of gear. It been lowered for maybe 600 miles..and i never had this problem on stock suspension. I been too busy lately to drive it...i'll try to take it out for a spin today and maybe record the sound if possible.

Check your tire pressures and make sure it is equal on both sides in the rear.

I believe mines is the same. when you downshift or deaccelerate, you hear this whining noise from the gears. I think S2000s are common on that. unless im wrong.

So i took out the S today after it's been sitting for about a week and the noise seem to have stopped. After driving for about 20 miles or so the noise became apparent again. The noise sounds similar to a squeal or a duck lol . Can anyone explain what a bad/pitted CV sounds or feels like? Or what happens if you need to retorque the Axle nut? Thanks

My recent experience, I just fixed it today.

For some time I've had squeeks and groans from the driveline. Eventually, at speed there was a steady "eek-eek-eek-eek" (with the top up it almost sounded like a belt squealing), as I slowed down the frequency of the occurrence of the noise got slower, and the pitch of the noise got lower. As the car came to a stop, the last foot or so of movement sounded like a door with creaky hinges.

It was the driver's side rear axle nut. I tightened them both and the noise went away.

I never once heard the "clicking" sound when starting off from a stop like everyone describes.
