rear gear change
has anyone had success with rear diff gear swap. is there a reasonable way to get speedometer, odometer reading corrected?
i experimented with 40 series tires on stock rims, gave effective 10% higher final drive
ratio (O.D. 22.5in i vaguely, but possibly incorrectly recall). it was great, acceleration more linear thruout powerband, ie, felt more powerful down low, and then less dramatic feeling vtec changeover, less frenzied but still amazing approach to redline encouraged u to go there more often. Also, lowered car nice while retaining stock like geometry, and the stock rims looked cooler with lo-profile rubber, i liked the tiny donut look in the big fenderwell.
downsides were only related to be too low on the street for where and how i drive(killed RM spoiler < 6 hrs on caynon rock after i put it on), and high speedo, and odometer reading, at least for me.
i'd give up 150mph top end(never been close to there), for more zip to 130mph.
also, freeway rpms were fine in 6th gear cruising mode, could go with an extra 5%
gearing IMHO.
also, are the gears on MG racing site for real? ALSO, can this be an inconspicuous change including speedo reset if possible to not be easily seen during warrany repairs, or would need to be reversed, if for example u needed a TSB 055/054 scenario

yes, the gears are available from MG Racing. I believe there is a 4.44 gear inbound. But as for correcting the speedo, I don't believe its possible. I've discussed this with other members and how it actually reads. Without cracking the electronics and how it reads the pulses on the gears, we're SOL. Its not as easy as an old Borg Warner T5, where you change out the speedo gear for different teeth.

i read a post that for some other car, maybe civic or GSR, some vendor offered a little box that interposes, reads the actual pulses, and the sends out fewer pulses on the other side to correct reading. probably application specific; nonetheless if someone technically minded wanted to fufill my fantasy, they should build a module for the S2K THAT ALSO PROVIDES A FEED TO A H.U.D.(heads up display), which would probably simplify installation and calibration of a hud, or make it an easier kit.
thanks for your feedback.
hey RT, I HAVEN'T FORGOTTEN U: the bolt left loose on the left(drivers)alternator bracket is the deep one closest to the engine, goes thru the foot of the "L" bracket which then bolts to s/c bracket. i'll try to send u a pic, but i'm extremely lazy.
