Default Reassignment of Coil Pack Colors Help!

I've had my S2000 for 3 years only driven it 4k miles. I have yet to inspect the ignition coil system until i had 2 misfires on the way home. This led me to investigating under the spark plug cover. The previous owner had a bunch of wild and funky things going on. It looks like he attempted to make a new connector on the wire end and has all the factory colors on all but 1 cylnder. No4 is has different colors and the shortest leads of course.

I being dumb decided to attempt to replace the connector on what was a known good connection.

Question is am I able to test to see which wire is what? Also I have access to a new harness is it wise to cut out the old and go with a new section?

Whats presently installed is a hodgepodge talking zip ties, glue missing tabs etc.

It's really upsetting because the car was running well and now 2 down cylinders due to this.

Thanks in advance

The connectors have been known to break , particularly when removed in very cold temperatures. The previous owner probably tried to replace the broken connectors with used parts, or they tried some form of repair. If you have to remove them in cold temps do it after the engine warms them up. If you have pictures post them up, hard to know what is happening without pictures.

No 1 cylinders with different colored wires unable to assign connectors to the new connectors because I don’t know which replaced brown. Which replaced black and which replaced brown/ black!

My concern is the harness which all the pins have new connectors and especially cylinder #4 which has new color designations for wire that was spliced in. The colors of brown brown black and black have been replaced. Is there a way I can test which color is what without taking apart the shrouding?

the service manual tells you which wire does what. Use a voltmeter and find out. The same wire should give the same voltage/resistance.

The bigger question is why not buy new clips from flea bay along with a wire depinning tool and replace this sloppy workmanship?

This is all you need. It's much better than the crap on there now, and it'll take you all of 30 minutes to do.

Thanks Man for your assessment. Looking at the wiring job and the conditions of the connectors and zip ties it looks as though that is what one of the owners did. I bought the connectors and a meter to hopefully get the car up and going. I fixed the original problem 3 and 4 misfire and now have one in 1 and 2. Go figure! Waiting for new connectors for 1 and 2 to arrive.
