Default rebuilding calipers

Does anybody have a clever technique so that I pull off my front two calipers to rebuild them (and let's assume it takes long enough.... a few days.... that I'd 'gravity bleed all my fluid out) , I can keep from losing all my fluid during that time?

I still intend on flushing the system, I just do not want the reservoir to go dry during that time period.

Pinching the hose is about the only way, which is not recommended unless you plan on replacing them.

You might pick up a caliper from a junk yard and either rebuild it instead or use it as a way to hold the fluid while you rebuild your originals.

I want to say a set of Remanufactured front calipers sell for 75ea at the dealer. With the kits costing about 20-30, to me it is an easy sale. My labor is worth 100 easy for the rebuilds.

The rears on the other hand was far more pricey.

I'm not rebuilding OEM calipers, they're Wilwoods and need to be opened and cleaned and O-rings replaced every so often.

If that is the case, I would find something to seal the brake capiler end of the brake line. For OEM, I would use a nut, bolt and two washers. That should stop the bleeding when the caliper is on the bench.

hello clark. so you just want to keep the master from draining correct? so you don't have to bench bleed it?

if so i have an idea that will probably suffice.

get 1/4" rubber hose. pull back the threaded nut and slip one end of the hose onto the flare of the brake line. clamp/pinch off the 1/4" rubber hose. this keeps you from pinching the brake line itself.

i hope this pic helps

jeggy, you are exactly correct that is what I am trying to accomplish, and your method may work perfectly for me. Thank you for your time, as I was just looking for the shared experience of the group for this simple task (sometimes the simplest ideas....)

Apparently there is something out there called line locks which somebody was so kind as to rudely point out my ignorance of. When I stop being so stupid, I will look into them as well.

Thanks for the help everyone.
