Default Remove compliance bushing -- hack?

I need to get the compliance bushing out of the lower control arm, but... I don't have the proper size sleeve or a huge socket that would work.

Please tell me if this is a good idea. What if I press out the rubber, leaving the bearing outer race still in the arm. Then use a plate/disc thing from my bearing removal kit that is the proper diameter to push out that race, leaving me with that to then use to install the new bearing.

Would that work?

The problem is that this particular bushing has that centre shaft/whatever, which makes it impossible to just use the adapter plate to remove/install it obviously. I need a cup/sleeve of that size but don't have one.

Whatever works just don’t mess up the surface where the bearing sits, cut out the rubber and then cut the metal bushing sleeve out, should be able to push it out with a chisel easily, I was able to find a few pieces of exhaust pipe at crappy tire that worked great to push out the old bushing sleeve

Yes, this did work. I sliced up the rubber first to weaken it a bit, then pushed the centre metal bushing thing out. This leaves me with the outer sleeve still in the arm, of course. However, now that I'm able to sit my bearing removal adapter plate things on it, I find that I don't have one of the exact diameter. One is very close, but slightly too large.

Grr.

I'll go to cdn tire and see if I can get some bits of exhaust pipe somehow. I've never done that before.. hopefully they will just sell me a few short pieces and one will work.

Do you mean orient it top/bottom correctly or maybe the arrow embossed in the rubber of the new one?

I actually am replacing with hardrace spherical bushings which I *think* can go in any which way. But I'll double-check, thanks for the reply.

I'll take the arm to cdn tire and try and find a matching piece. Thanks!

If it comes to it, I found a cheap socket at Princess Auto that will also do the trick.

Just support the arm around the bushing so you don't tweak anything, and just press it out. From my recollection it takes ~3.5 tons of pressure to push out the sleeve from the arm.
