Default Remove engine without removing tranny.

Is it possible to remove the engine without removing the tranny?

On a lot of cars I've worked on you can get to the bell housing bolts from underneath or over the back of the engine using a flexy ratchet.

I know our engine is back against the firewall but we can also drop our engine quite a bit on the 6 cradle bolts.

Has anyone successfully done this?

Do you mean remove the engine with the trans attached or remove the engine while leaving the trans in place?

I can not see this happining unless everthing drops out of the bottom and the subframe comes along. It's not gonna come out of the top with the cross member in place.

I have dropped everything out the bottom. Easy to swap the motor this way. Sticking the trany over head is a PIA. Doing it on the ground, piece of cake.

I already had the head off, and I had to lower the engine cradle to get to the top bellhousing bolts but once that was done there is enough room to move the engine forward and lift it up.

And don't make the rookie mistake of forgetting to pull out the clutch fork. Even read a thread about that last week and it still had me stumped for 15 minutes.
