Kick with both feet.

Why do you need it removed? Trying to replace yourself or something?

lol, strangely I envision that not working out as planned

It is cracked and I am in the middle of painting my car so as it would need to be replaced anyways I want to remove it prior to painting so that I get paint in every seam.

I'd call up a local glass shop and ask for their tricks. I bet it involves prying, some adhesive remove and a few large suction cups.

I've seen it done.
A pillar and upper covers off,
trim off,
wipers, wiper cover off,
urethane knife pulled all the way around tight to glass so as not to damage a pillar paint,
remove extra urethane,
prep bonding area with urethane primer,
apply urethane,
apply windshield.

...if I recall from memory correctly...

Don't try kicking it out. You may pull a Pineapple Express!

Are installing new windshield by yourself or someone else is? If someone else is, you could ask them to remove it and then when you finish painting they can come back and install the new windshield for you...
