Default removing a/c from S2000

to save some weight I figured i would remove as much of the A/C stuff as I can..... there is some kind of thing right in front of the radiator and the a/c lines running from there to the firewall and into the heater core thing under the dash......

Anything tricky to remove all of that? SHould I leave that front a/c peice to protect my radiator?

eventually i will remove the a/c compressor motor thing too..... i need a smaller belt to do that though....

thanks

PM FastrackS2000 - he is running a smaller belt, bypassing the A/C compressor. He may have the part number for the belt...and he may be interested in your A/C compressor.

Scot-

You don't need the condensor to protect your radiator. I just put some mesh (fine chicken wire) in the grill opening to keep the rubber and stones from damaging the radiator. You will get better on-track cooling with the condensor removed. I removed everything related to AC and you will be surprised how much the pump weighs.

-Pete

PS Let me know if you need the part number for the belt which excludes the AC - I run a Goodyear Gatorback belt and it fits just fine.

thanks Pete - If you don't mind, can you give me the belt #?

I won't try this in the freezing cold, but I will hopefully get all of the a/c stuff removed when it gets warmer out...my garage is not heated......

Can you guys post the part number of the belt. Is it a manufacturer part number?

Bringing back this post from the dead so that I won't take up any bandwidth with a new one.

I have read many posts on this in this forum and it seems that most of the admins and mods are totally against it. Moving on.
This winter I am turning my s2000 into a full race, off road vehicle only and will be starting by removing the ac lines, condensor, pump, etc. I will also be removing the cruise control setup and shaving as much weight as possible. I understand that releasing the ac into the ozone is bad and illegal and blah blah but over the thanksgiving holiday I visited the inlaws in southwest pa, and wv and seen more coal being burnt from powerplants destroying the atmosphere. Therefore I'm not going to feel bad.

Are there any DIY setups for this? I understand the helms manual will help but when my computer went down I lost my bootleg version. If anyone can help me with a link to that it would be much appreciated. I am not looking for criticism its going to happen regardless of naysayers input. Thanks for reading

So you admit you know there is the right way to recover refrigerant, but you don't care.

You lost your stolen copy of the service manual, and need help. But you don't want anyone to pick on you for knowingly doing it the wrong way.

I am not in the position to take the car to a shop pay x- amount of dollars to have them "remove the refrigerant" becasue it may or may not contribute to some form of ozone depletion that the government decided to call illegal. I would love to debate it but would rather get the job done. I am sure there are plenty of illegal things that everyone on this board performs on a daily basis that they feel shouldn't be illegal so please spare me.
And yes my "bootleg" copy of the helms was lost. I received it from someione on this board and if I could remember who I would pm them. 75 dollars for the book is also a little steep.

Maybe you should call a local shop and find out if they would even charge you for recovery.. My shop wouldn't.

75$ is nothing considering the information provided when building your "race car"
