Default Removing Diff Fill bolt

So I am going off of SIIK2NR's thread here

Diff Fluid Change

He says to use a 1/2" socket drive 24mm to remove the fill bolt. So I went out and got one. Part of the suspension is blocking access to the bolt or my wrench head is too large, so I went out and purchased a socket wrench with a smaller head. It still will not fit in that tight space. I am thinking of just buying a regular wrench but none of the auto places carries a 24mm wrench. What are you guys using? Thanks.

any auto parts store also carries both the 23 mm wrench and 24mm socket.

They had the 23-24mm socket but no actual wrench. Went to Kragan and Pep Boys.

I had trouble finding one too, so I just used an adjustable wrench. It works, but since its open make sure you have a good tight grip or you can strip the diff bolt.

Just to be even more specific, I use a 23mm box end wrench on the fill bolt and a 1/2" drive 24mm socket on the drain bolt. There's not a lot of room to fit a standard sized socket on the fill bolt, but the box end wrench fits easily and is less likely to slip off compared to an open end or adjustable wrench. The reason I like a snug fit is that the differential cooling fins can be broken off if the wrench slips.

Good idea about grinding down a socket, but then it may not be as useful in other applications.
