Do you have the shop manual? That'd be a good place to start

One tip: when you remove the UPPER starter bolt, locate the LOWER starter bolt at the same time. There have been a number of reports of people removing the first bolt they see (the lower bolt) then wondering why they can't separate the transmission from the engine.

1. Get a really long extension to access the starter bolts. It will make your job easyer
2. Be sure to lower the front cradle / subframe to access the top bolts on the tranny.
3. Be carfull with the plastic ring on the shifter boot
4. Make sure you replace the pilot and throw out bearings, dont be cheap and cut corners.
Good luck

This is the best advice you will get hands down.

There are many things that can be seriously damged if you omit steps. Like broken internal wires of the main engine harness

or a broken cable reel

or a bent steering shaft

get the book and you'll be fine.

But I'll add one hot tip: the knock sensor is in the direct path of the extension and socket when going in for the upper starter bolt.

When going in for the upper starter bolt, be very slow and patient, use a bright penlight.

The knock sensor is super fragile. If you so much as touch it's connector, you will instantly break it.

It's been broken by almost everyone who has tried to replace a clutch in the s2k. It can be broken by a five year old child just by squeezing it in HER hand

And lastly, leave the upper starter bolt floating in the hole once it's loose, don't take it all the way out. it will be very tough to get back in.
