Wink Replacing Rear Main Seal question

Found some oil leak on my transmission and probably think that it's the rear main seal. Planning on dropping and inspecting my tranny and see if there's any oil leak. Also, i can shift from almost any gear into neutral without clutching and it moves easily into neutral.

The rear main seal was replaced before when the clutch was changed out. Not sure if the shop installed it wrong so I will be doing the work myself.

Was reading another post on changing out the rear main seal and someone said that i need to have a rear main seal driver to install the rear main seal. Do you really need the driver or can i push it in with my finger or use something else? If I need the driver, where can I pick one up?

Also, would the rear main seal be the only culprit if i find oil on clutch assembly in the transmission?

Thanks for the help.

IMO a "special" driver is necessary because the seal needs to be put deeper then the face of the housing (I hope thats the proper explanation) and you can't apply force on the lip.
Maybe thats why its allready leaking again?
Expect a special tool to be $$$$$$$ at a Honda dealer.
I'm not sure if part # are international.
Driver 4 - # 07LAD-PW50601
Extension 3 - # 07746-0010300 (not sure if you really need this one)

If you have the new seal allready you could make a drawing of the dimentions and ask a machine shop to make you a simple tool that also fits.
Don't forget the output shaft is still there (not shown in the image)

I hope this helps you.

that doesn't look like where the rear main seal goes

this thread has a pic of the rear main seal (unless they're wrong)

but thanks for the help.

Notice the rear main seal doesn't go very far in

This made me think you were talking about the transmission's rear seal.
The picture in the thread you linked to is the engine's rear main seal.

The whole thing about a special driver is the same IMO.
It wouldn't be to hard for a machine shop to make something out of a piece of pipe of the proper dimensions.
