Default Resonator Removal?

First off, yes I did do a search but it didn't really help much.
I was looking to get some feedback from people who have it done and what they think of it.
My only Mod is an AEM V2, and I'm looking for a little bit more sound, looking for a rich, deep sound which is not TOO loud. Unfortunatly I don't have the money for a Fujitsubo or Mugen system so I have been considering clipping the resonator.

Anyways, I hear it will mess up the mapping of the car and there would be no way to re-map it. IS this true?
Are there any other negative effects I should expect if I did this? Would it effect my fuel efficiency at all?
Just wondering if I should keep saving up for a an full out system or if this is a worthwhile solution for now?
Thanks!

People who remove the resonator are very happy with it. It gives them a bit more agressive exhaust note but doesn't make it overly loud. It will not affect your gas mileage or have anything to do with the ECU's fuel map. The only difference it will make is exhaust note so it is a perfectly safe mod to do.

I replaced the stock mega mufflers with Magnaflows on my '03 S2000, which gave it a nice low exhaust note. It still was overmuffled for a real sports car, as far as I was concerned, so I removed the resonator as well. It now has the same low, throaty note, but is half again as loud. It is not excessively loud, and you can drive round town conservatively, or cruise on the freeway and barely hear it. When you rev it up, however, it sounds like what it is - a high performance sports car. It now has the sound it should have come from the factory with.
BTW, I have noticed no change in performance (unless there is possibly a little more power due to reduced back pressure). On a recent 1200 + mile trip to Portland and back I got between 28.4 and 30.4 mpg.

What Magnaflow mufflers did you use? How much modification did they have to do to get them to match up to the stock pipes?

I got the "Performance Polished Magnaflow" stainless steel straight through mufflers for $85 a piece. The magnaflow pipe is the same size as the S2000 exhaust pipe so no modification was necesary (and the tuning of the exhaust is maintained). They just cut off the stock elephant fart suppressors and welded the magnaflows on. Eliminating the resonator just consisted of cutting it off and welding in an equal length of good quality same diameter pipe.
The key is to go to a reputable muffler shop that will do a good job and will let you watch while they do it.
You can get the magnaflows with a variety of tips, but I had them put the original chrome tips back on. It looks stock until you notice the smaller but shinier mufflers.

for the resonatorectomy

No Ecu issues, balances sound between front (if you did intake mods) and the rear.

Saves 12 pounds and $300-$2000.

Nice tone at cold start and from 3000-3500RPM w/o cabin drone.
