Default Rev Limit changed

My Honda dealer changed the spool valve. Post repair, the Rev Limit cuts out at 7,000rpm vs. 9,000rpm.
Dealer claims this is normal. I disagree and would like them to reset the limiter.
Can anyone provide me with more guidance to provide my dealer on this adjustment?

There is no rev limiter setting. They broke something. When you force them to address whatever that is, they'll blame you, try to make you oay for their mistake. Dealer SOP.

STOP GOING TO DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE!!!

Tgey don't know these cars. Overcharge, and break stuff.

It more likely is just breaking up and running like shit over 7000 rpm, not anything to do with the limiter. Are you sure VTEC is engaging? If not, it likely will run worse as RPM increases like that. No codes or anything? Why did the change the spool valve to start with? And how could anyone that knows anything about the car think it is normal for this to occur? Run like hell from that place unless you can get them to fix what they broke.

If you are in Madison, WI then ASM Motorsports is about 1:45 min from you. They do a lot of work, track prep, kswaps, etc on these cars and know them very well. Not sure if they want to just do regular mechanic stuff like this, but if you do not have a trusted shop (and guessing not if going to a dealership) it would not hurt to contact them and see if they would be willing to take a look. I used to live in the Twin Cities, but I am the only one that works on my cars so do not have other good recs for shops, but do know they know our cars very well.

Is the car fully warmed up when you're doing this?

Sounds like VTEC is not engaging, it can feel like a rev limiter.
Did they forget to plug in the spool valve maybe? Quick and easy to check.
Hope they didn't break anything else.

Dealer is full of crap, obviously. I wonder what they did wrong.

Top Tier Automotive on the far east side is supposed to be good. But I got to the point of refusing to let anyone else touch my car before I had a chance to try them.

Incompetent professional mechanics screwed up my cars too many times. I simply had enough. Their prices also got outrageous considering the garbage level of work. And this was a few years ago, before covid. I can only imagine what it's like now.

Lol based on the like...1 sentence that OP wrote to describe the problem, everyone's got their pitchforks out for the dealer.

OP....
Why was the spool valve changed? What symptom lead you to do this?

I asked earlier whether the car was at full operating (coolant) temp before you are trying to rev past 7K. Is it?

Is the check engine light on?

Does the engine have enough oil?

Any other apparent issues you've noticed with the car?

You nailed it: The VTEC is not functioning.
Dealer appointment tomorrow. Should be fixable.
~138K on car. Has always run great -- until replacing spool valve -- which supposedly should help with oil distribution.
Hopefully back to maximum vrooms again.
Thank you!!
