Hate to go against god on this one, but i think the limiter before the coolant is warm is at 7k.
Actually it has nothing to do with the coolant temp.

It has to do with oil temp/pressure. That's why the "cold" limiter is at 6000rpm.

I am not aware of an oil temp sensor. The reason for the limiter may be oil temp but I think the system is making the decision based upon coolant temp.

doh, yeah I see it is coolant temp (140 degrees I'm told).

I guess the logic behind it is somewhat the opposite of what I said. At colder temps, oil exerts more pressure, and could cause damage when revving the engine so high before the oil is up to temp. I guess honda figures that by the time the coolant is at 140 degrees, the oil temp "should" be adequate to produce decent flow for the engine and the higher rpm ranges.

even so, the early rev limiter is 6000rpm. there is a period where you can start to dip into the vtec range, but it will still fall short of 9000rpm. I've done that before too.

Actually the cold rev-limiter is around 7K...VTEC won't engage if you don't have sufficient oil pressure at 6K but the actual limiter hits around 7K. At least the MY04 is at 7K could be that MY00-03 is 6K.

I just did it after lunch today. The rev limiter kicked in around 6k rpm. It was such a kill joy.

BTW, provided that people don't downshift to second gear @ 60mph, people can drive hard and bounce off the rev limiter repeatedly and not blow their engines then.

It is a little twisted, but can I look at it this way?

Yeah I just did it too. Maybe it's different on the 04+. but on the 00-03, it's right smack dead at 6000rpm

Interesting.....I know I've hit it once before because I was two eager too early and I do remember it being at 7K. Not something I want to test again though Curious at why they'd raise the cold rev limiter for the MY04? Something about the new block?
