Default Reverse Thump

Cold Start..reverse.. and right when the clutch reaches the "Friction point" ..::THUMP

If I warm up the car more and pump the clutch about 20 times before leaving, it the thump wouldn't be there or is lessened.

Anyone else has this? I know it is rare.

Does it only happen in reverse?

Could just be the rear pads sticking to the rotors. If I warm the brakes up driving around town and park with the ebrake and let it sit for a night I will get a slight thump. Either that or if I wash the car and let it sit for a while... same thing.

It isn't the brake pads, the sound is made when you press the clutch in and near or at the friction point is when you get the thump sound. The sound is 95% mainly in reverse.

Can you isolate it to a certain part of the car? Transmission.... or maybe differential? This might sound stupid... but what stuff do you have floating around in the trunk.. flashlight moving around or something?

Shots in the dark.... hope you find out.

The sound only occur when I step on the clutch and seems to be comming from the front of the car, so I would say clutch/tranny related more than anything else.

I think, when cold, the clutch doesn't fully disengage or something since if I have it in neutral on start up, and when I release the clutch in neutral the car is do a little lurch. Again, only happens on the first start of the day.

I think there would have to be something SERIOUSLY wrong with your tranny (not your clutch) to lurch when it is in nuetral.

perhaps lurch is the wrong word, more like moves <1cm only again on the first start of the day, when I am off the breaks and let up on the clutch when in neutral. If it slightly moves, that is the only time, if I put the clutch in then release again, no movement in neutral.

No thumping this morning since I let it warm up a bit more than usual.

Mine is an 02 and i have gotten the thump everyday i v had the car going into first or reverse. its very slight but you can def feel it under your left foot. I never really thought much of it. Seemed like others have had this as well so i thought it was normal.

I'm with Andrew on this one. The disk pads definitely stick to the rotors when you park the car. Parking brake or no. 99% chance that's what you hear, docofmind.

Former may have a different problem though, as he doesn't think it's the rotors.

Best wishes!
