Default Rotor Screw

Hey guys,

I haven't posted on this site in forever.

anyhow, I tried to remove the screw for my rear rotor but it seems that i may have stripped it. I may have to drill it out. Is there an easy to get to place to get these screws? I'm hoping somebody else has run into this problem.

thanks,
Minh

It's a factory placed screw that basically holds the rotor there while on the assembly line. This is what I was told by a worker there because I had the same problem, ended up drilling them out and just leaving a little end sticking out as more of a locater pin now.
The same was told to me about the screw by a dealer tech so take it for what it's worth. If you feel safer with it there then try and replace but that rotor is not gonna go anywhere at all if its not present either...
Edit: this was on my civic btw

I had the same fear when I first replaced my rotors on my05 but VaderS2k is correct.
I bought a few screws from Honda to be safe but I never used them. I used one lug nut to hold it in place while i reinstalled the calipers back and the brakes will hold the rotor while u put the wheel back and in turn the wheel will hold the rotor in place when the brakes are not being used.
Hope that made sense!

I did strip the first 2 screws by hand but then I used a drill to remove them. Sprayed them with a penetrating lubricant (not KY ) and held the drill firmly into the screw and it came out. Could have re-used them but decided not to.

You need to become familiar with impact screw drivers.

Yup.

But also, no harm in not using the screws.

i tried that damn impact screw driver and the impact bits BENT!!!! dawgon super screws or somesing.

Anyways......Rotors are usually Free Floating rotors....meaning they dont need any screws to hold them in place. they are only there to keep the rotor in place when the assembly is off..

I tried two screws, bent 2 bits, i proceeded to drill the rest without even trying to use a screw driver. I now have cross drilled slotted rotors

if you still have trouble getting the stripped screws out, use the easy out tool kit.

Awesome. Thanks for all the responses. I found a Home Depot that sells the Husky Hand Impact Driver. I'm going to give that a try.
