Rough Idle
Hi guys,
I have 2002 honda s2000. It has about 20,000 miles on the car. The car is idleing very rough. When i first turn over the car in the morning and let it sit there till it warms up. As soon as it warms up it starts shaking violently. I drive it a bit and it calms down. I drive the car 66 miles on the freeway a day. When i drive to school which is 33 miles and get off the freeway, the car idle is a little smoother but still shakes hard. Same thing happens when i drive back. I havent seen any real power loss in the car. But i was wondering if anyone has encountered this problem or if anyone has any suggestions as to what i can do to help stop this problem? The only thing i have on the car is an aem cai that was installed about 10,000 miles ago. Please let me know of anything that i can do to fix this rough idle problem!
Thanks, Al

With the intake, the dealer may not be very compassionate if it is an induction problem. Things that come to mind:
MAP sensor - give it a wack.
Check spark plugs.
Bad gas? Clogged injectors?
Checked your air filter lately. An AEM filter gets dirty real fast.
All your AEM hoses on correctly? If not, you would have gotten a CEL already.
Check your ECU "BACK UP" fuse under the dash.
Check the slack on your throttle cable. Most have reported this to be very loose.

The throttle cable shouldn't have any effect on the idle, since the idle is controlled by an electronic air valve. I also wouldn't expect a clogged air filter to effect idle if it isn't experiencing problems at speed.
My 1st thought is a missing or blown ECU backup fuse (#25), and my 2nd is improperly adjusted valve clearances. My idle improved greatly when I adjusted my valve clearances.
