Default Rough shifting from 2nd to 3rd

I just picked up my 2002 s2k on 3/19. I put about 250 miles of city driving in the last day and a half. My problem is the car is shifting very rough mostly going from 2nd into 3rd (and just a little from 1st into 2nd). It is not a full grind you can hear just rough shifting. I just sold my Miata that I had for five years and it shifted as smooth as glass. Is this just because the car is new? Do I have to take a 2 day old car to the shop?

Just a bit more detail. Between 2nd & 3rd you can feel the teeth of the gear about 70% of the time at 4000-4500rmps at 3500 you feel it less and only about 20% of the time. Are any of the 2002 owners having this issue.
I have read about TSB 54&55 but I thought that related to 2000 & 2001 and was fixed for 02'.

I hope you can help a new owner and welcome any advice.

Thanks
David

Most of them start with a notchy feel that smoothes with a few thousand shifts.. maybe not that many. I would give it several thousand miles and maybe a lube change before I concluded there was a problem.

I have noticed the same symptons on my 2002 s2k. It was purchased in Feb 02 and has about 1800 miles! Wondering how common is this?

Same problem here too. Sometimes it's rough 1-2 and 2-3.......worse when it's cold ('02 with about 1600 miles on it). I've gottten that 2nd gear grind a couple times too. I'm thinking about taking it in to the dealer if it keeps up.

I have a 00 with 7,900miles. I think I have the same issue, warm or cold. It's getting worse. I took it to the dealer last fall when it first started and refered to TSB#00-055. They took it for a test drive and claimed there was nothing wrong with it. Now that it's worse I'll give them another try. Good Luck!
