Default RSX ECU swap??

I hate to ask a stupid question, but I just had an enlightening conversation with John at Hytech (asking about availability of a header for the S) and he told me that the reason most bolt-on mods don't have much of an effect on the F20C is because of the stock ECU. It simply compensates for everything, and pretty much negates any benefit generated by most bolt-ons. I never realized the ECU is that large of a factor. It makes sense, though, especially when you compare our cars to the RSX, which has shown HUGE gains with both bolt-ons and Hondata ECUs. Our ECUs are different from the RSX, and cannot be flashed.

So, back to my stupid question...can the RSX ECU be swapped into the S2000 somehow? Might there be some type of wiring harness that would allow such a swap? I know there's power to be had in the F20C...I just want a way to uncork it. A flashable ECU would open the door to other mods that would gain good power.

John said that with an ECU, a custom header/exhaust combo would show significant gains...I believe him. Look at what he's done with the RSX...265 to the wheels.

I'd like to know as well. If that can be done, I'd definitely switch to a custom Hytech header/exhaust right away.

No. The RSX has I-VTEC, which is very different from VTEC. If there was ANY compatability, Hondata would sell the RSX ECU in the S2000 market.

The S2000 has just as much potential as an RSX-S, it just hasn't had the amount of development money invested.

If I/H/E could produce 265 RWHP with an RSX ECU, it could produce it with an AEM EMS.

I'm aware of the i-VTEC, but couldn't there be (in theory) a way to wire the ECU and bypass the part that controls cam phase (since there wouldn't be anything to control)??

I guess you would need to contact Hondata to see why they were so ignorant to not offer their RSX ECU as an S2000 alternative.

I asked them if the ECUs are swappable. The reply?

"I don't know."

There is still hope!!

Was that a confident "I don't know.", or do you think he was guessing?

It was a "I don't know, and I really don't care" kind of reply.

They really seem disinterested in anything that has to do with the S2000.

Either way, they didn't say "no," and I am wanting to research this some more.

BTW...I am used to this. My last car was a del Sol VTEC...the bastard stepchild of the Honda aftermarket. I had a lot of cool mods that were never made for the del Sol, including a Mugen exhaust, Tein coilovers, Comptech Icebox, etc.

I hope I have as much luck getting things to work on the S that weren't made for it.
