Thumbs up Running in oil

Hey,

I've got a s2k which hasn't been driven for 3 years and has only done 12 miles, this has been regulary started up, but not driven.

I don't really want to use this oil as i am now going to start using the car,
Obviously i don't want to use the old oil so i will replace all the lubricants but i will need to get the oil supplement (breaking in oil)
Where do i get this from in the uk?

which oil is best 10w 30?

any information would be much appreciated

You should ask this in the UK forum. It's too specific to be asked here. You just need a high moly concentrate supplement and that's only if you feel you must. A few people have dumped their factory oil early and just started using off the shelf oil without any problems.

Since this is pretty much still a "new" car and it's new to you, you should find the owner's manual and read it. It will answer many of the questions you have or that may come up. It will also tell you that 10W30 or 5W40 is the recommended oil.

I would just keep the oil that is in there now as it is still good.
Run it up to 1-2000kms and then change it out to any 10W30 oil.

I did this on my S2k, changing the factory fill out at 2000kms to Valvoline All Climate 10W30. Then changed it again at 5000kms.

When I hit 9000kms I changed out to Amsoil 10W30. Car has 30,000kms and even after hard lapping or high rpm street driving i have zero oil consumption, not to mention a healthy dyno at 200whp.

Good luck

Three year old semi-used oil is not still good!

According to Motorweek's Pat Goss, oil that has been sitting in an engine for a long time should be changed BEFORE starting it up. He said that the acids in the oil can eat away at the bearings. I'm not saying I take everything he says as gospel, but he has more experience in the automotive industry than I have.

Oil's shelf-life in the sealed bottle is quite a long time, but once its been used in an engine conventional is good for around 6 months and synthetic about a year.

wow... just wow. oil oxidizes. that's why in your service manual it says xxxx miles OR xxx months. That oil is nowhere NEAR "good".

I did this on my S2k, changing the factory fill out at 2000kms to Valvoline All Climate 10W30. Then changed it again at 5000kms.
you changed your oil WAY too soon than is necessary. waste of money and resources. the factory fill can be left in for 3750-7500 miles.

When I hit 9000kms I changed out to Amsoil 10W30.
You should not have put synthetic in until at least 7500 miles. You put in synthetic too early. The effects of this may be nothing at all, or premature engine failure. chances are you'll be ok, but none the less....
