Default Seat rail fabrication?

Hi,

I finally received my Corbeau Forza seats and now I have to find a way to mount them in my car. According to Corbeau, if I go with the S2000 rails from Corbeau, I'll lower the seat with 1/2 - 1 inch. That would not be sufficient for me. If I'll basically mount them on 2 strips of steel, it will put me significantly lower (2-3 inches maybe?).
So, do you guys know what kind of metal (and thickness) should I use? I don't think aluminium would be robust enough, so I was thinking steel. ACE Hardware has some bands of steel - 1 inch of width, but only 1 1/2 mm of thickness - it looks too flexible for me. What do you guys think?

Thank you,
George

the rails I made at 3am before a track event consisted of that strap steel and I used an aluminum plate to connect both straps for added strength. Good luck!

The seat bases I am using are made by Wedge for Sparco. The steel is either 3/16" or 1/4" - it is pretty beefy.

I built custom seat rails for my seat so I could get the lowest position possible. Though after doing it I would highly recomend just buying one because it was a royal pain. Though my seat is really low now, but you can probably get pretty close with some rails made by wedge, etc.

Harry,

What exactly do you need me to measure? The distance between the bolts or the actual distance between the seat sides?
From what I can see, the seats are OK as a fit for S2000. Corbeau has also recommended the seat for S2000. However, if I get the Corbeau rails, they won't lower me too much (maybe 1/2 - 1 inch).
Where are you buying the Wedge rails? If you do a search in google.com you can find horse stuff. I'm more on the elephant side though .
I think I'll use two bands of steel (1 inch wide x 2-3 mm thick) to mount the seat on the stock holes. The seat itself will be mounted on the metal bands with the supplied screws.
I've got from the vendor (eBay of course) the rails for a Cavalier. The other option would be to use the slider (?) and weld it on the above mentioned bands of metal.
Sorry, no digital camera yet.
I'll take the seats tonight to a friend who's mechanic to have them painted black (original yucky yellow) and maybe he'll figure out a better way to mount them.

Thank you for your input.
George

I got mine through OG Racing - http://www.ogracing.com/contact.asp

If you call, ask for Eric Wallace - they refer to them as Sparco vehicle-specific bases.

I am running the bases with Sparco sliders on Sparco Sprint seats and they sit really, really low.

I'm 6' - the seats and rails are perfect for me. I haven't measured the distance from the seat to the roof, but it is noticeably lower. Also, I don't need to duck down anymore to see stoplights.

I've discussed with a friend of mine (mechanic) the choices for mounting the seats - especially the driver seat. Since the car does not have a totally flat bottom, it looks like any rail system will put me too high. My friend is telling me that the only way to sit much lower is to bolt the seat on the floor. Do you guys think of any big issues with his suggestion?

Thank you,
George

PS: Harry, I'll measure the seat later tonight or tomorrow and I'll PM you the dimensions.

I would highly recommend not bolting it to the floor. As you just said, the car does not have a flat bottom. The Wedge bases and Sparco sliders lift the seats a maximum of 1" from the floor. If you want an exact measurement, I can get that for you - just let me know what you want (space under seat, seat to roof, etc.).
