I have changed the dif and tranny fluid and it still grinds. i am wondering if the previous owner learned how to drive a stick with this car. haha
I had the 2nd gear grind on my AP1 and I even had the dealer rebuild the transmission under warranty. The grind went away for awhile but it came right back. And like yours, it was intermittent, some days, it would just grind going into 2nd.. then it wouldn't grind for a month. I switched from the Honda MTF to Syncromesh FM and the grinds went away. Syncromesh FM is a pain to find, only because it's carried at Cadillac dealers for some reason and not all Cadillac dealers have it. I had to drive all the way to Costa Mesa. But it was worth the drive as the notchiness of the transmission went away as did the grinding.

Hey everyone,
I heard this was a common problem with the AP1s. How many have had this problem and what are you expierences on having this fixed. I have taken my car to Honda 2 times and they cant duplicate the problem. It doesnt happen all the time, only when i get on it hard. I am not a bad driver and a dont grind gears. i have it under warranty for another 8K so i want to get this done soon. Honda told me that they will take the tranny apart to find the problem but if they cant find a problem i need to pay the labor...$600+. what do you guys think i should do?
The big problem is replicating it for the dealer. Of course, very rarely will it happen while the mechanic is in the car but here's a service bulletin that seems to be related to the issue.

Never tried it myself but I figured it's a step in the right direction if you want to arm yourself with some info. I imagine for this kinda stuff, you need to get Honda's customer care department involved so call them and see where that takes you. Good luck!
