Default Setting vtec engagement

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that in vtec engines, you can get a programmable chip to have the vtec kick in earlier than the factory setting.

I was thinking about a senario of setting a s2k to have the vtec kick in before 6k rpm (say 5k). Is that possible? If so, what are the potential risk of this type of setup(taken that I don't set it at 2k or something)?

Just wondering what you guys think or have addtional opinions.

There are Vtec controlers out there like th VAFC or VAFC2...

Best bang for your buck I think when It comes to engine electronics...

There are also complete engine management systems like HKS FCON-S, or HONDATA...

I've even heard people saying that spoon makes and ECU or MUGEN or something like that, or you could get it chiped somewhere...

Setting Vtec would have to be done by dyno tuning to ensure the best power output...

Sorry if you knew this, hope it helps...

Sorry, there is no Hondata application for the S2000.

You can also not "chip" the stock or a replacement ECU.

The VTEC engagement on the S2000 isn't much higher than "optimum". On a stock setup, you wouldn't want to lower it more than 300-400 RPMs, or you would lose power.

In addition, the fuel and timing would need to be changed for good results if changing the Vtec engagement point.

Altering the F20C's engagement down to 5000 RPM is a detriment. The F22C might gain for a slight reduction in engagement. 'Might'. Doubt it.

Timing might make the optimum VTEC engagement lower, but it isn't necessary for benefit. With "perfect" fuel tuning (no timing), I got excellent results from lowering my VTEC to 5500. It is so smooth, I can't even feel it transition.
