Default Shift knob is crooked!

I bought my my2000 about 5 months ago and the shift knob has always been slightly off center (maybe rotated 10-15 degrees too far clockwise) since I bought the car. I never paid attention to it until it came loose and I saw there is no lock nut at the base and it always screws on too far. What does that lock nut look like... like how thin is it, etc? Can I just get any nut that is the right diameter and size, or should I see if a local Honda dealer has the original one?
Thanks in advance.

Thread lockis what you want the blue stuff not the gell and not the bottle color. it's medium hold and the actual liquid is blue. dont use anything else. NO RED NO YELLOW!! i may be wrong but i think blue comes in a red bottle for god knows what reason.

There is a black lock nut with integrated "washer" on an OEM shift knob assembly. Ask the dealer to order one for you, or fix the problem with blue Loctite as advised above.

Is your shift knob OEM or aftermarket?

You can just go to the hardware store and get a 10x1.5 nut if you don't want to use Loc-Tite, probably cost you 7-cents.

That may be easier said than done. Most hardware stores don't have much in the way of metric fasteners.

military surplus stores are a great place for metric stuff, though.

Plus, the OEM lock nut is colored black for that stealth look.

Thanks for the info. I have some blue Loc-tite, but I'm more concerned about how it's off center and crooked. If I get the OEM black lock nut will that automatically center it? And the shift knob is OEM by the way.

Either solution will take care of it. You turn the knob until it's aligned the way you like, then tighten the locknut or let the Loc-tite dry.
