This should get you started.

Remove the console cover first, then the shift knob, and vinyl shifter cover. Proceed as shown below.

If you wish to pull the shifter, then proceed as shown below.

There are photos showing how to remove the console cover, but I am at work and my service manual is at home...sorry.

Hmm, I think you need to clarify wheich shift boot, as there are probably 2 parts you could be talkign about. The previous poster is showing diagrams referring to the rubber boot that actually protects things, which is under the vinyl boot, which is for show.

So, do you mean the vinyl show boot or the rubber protective boot under that? I'm guessing you mean the vinyl one, which yuo might want to upgrade to some fancier leather version or something. I just went through this myself and had to try it without any instructions. It wasn't that hard to do, except for one step where I essentially had to break part of the console to get the boot holder all the way off. It was held on by some sort of melted plastic rivet thing. Seemed like really bad design to me at the time. I know the Ricks replacement boot comes with complete instructions and I'd love to see those some tiem to see how close I got to getting it right. In the end, mine turned out just fine, nothing is loose, no rattles or anything.

LG

is my car missing part of the boot holder? the boot slides down the stick a little where i can see the entire wingnut like thing inline with the stick. meaning that the material isnt touching the shiftknob's bottom
