Default Shift boot Stopper/lock

I just changed the shift knob on my car and for some reason the piece that holds the boot tight to the shifter is vibrating and the boot will not stay up high enough to cover the whole shifter. How do I adjust/fix this. It is driving me nutz. Thanks.

Take the console off. You will find that there is a zip tie that is doing this job. You can remove it an install a smaller one and make it tighter. Be careful not to make it too tight.

The whole console is actually held in with push in clips. Should just pull right off. Just be careful because you have wires going to your hazard lights switch (and maybe a rear window defroster, depending on your model year.) Just be sure to pull up carefully, and then disconnect those electrical connectors and the whole console will come off! HTH.

If you're going to go to that trouble you may as well replace your shift boot at the same time with a genuine leather one which will be stiffer.
