Default Shock FAQ Data Collection

O.K, maybe the same thing for shocks...

I'll eventually convert these tables to HTML and we can keep them as living FAQ's...

The Koni's price is unknown, and will be adjustable for rebound only... Check King's website for the Mugen prices, which are rebound & compression adjustable, and threaded-body.

Don't forget the Motons (also on King's website) which are avaiable as triple-or-double adjustable, and also threaded-body. And lastly, the Penskes... single, double or triple adjustable as options and also threaded-body. Pfb... I'd be happy to work with you on this FAQ... email me.

Only a single adjustment is available on the Mugen and I do not know what it adjusts (I have a copy of the instructions but they are in Japanese). It has been speculated that it adjusts both compression and rebound together.

You should also consider:

Tein RS, RA & CS (specs on their site, download the shock technical info)

H&R & Bilstein

Honda Sports Suspension

Spoon

and there are a lot of other options on the japanese market.

Things that I think are worth considering include:

Shock graphs

adjustability

Ride height

Spring rates

Spring pre-compresssion independent of ride height

OD of critical components (shock body, rod)

weight

That is correct. The single adjustment affects compression & rebound. More so the latter then the former as you crank up the stiffness scale.

Contrary to most modern street applications they are not a digressive shock, so as shaft speed goes up the slope of the compression & rebound curves does not decrease. The end result is that they will not go soft on you at speed. The price you pay is that on anything but the smoothest surfaces high speed driving is a jarring experience.

This is from personal experience.

Table updated.

Thanks for the input. As a note,

1. Telling me what I missed is helpful.

2. Telling me what I missed, and where to find the info is even more helpful.

3. Telling me what I missed, and providing the missing info is MOST helpful!

My intent was really to launch this FAQ. I have commited to Cthree to try and really improve our FAQ content. I'll make slow progress if I try and do all myself, so I'd really like to start turning over some of these faq's, then editing them and getting them posted into the FAQ section.

Please let me know if you have some time to continue on this FAQ...

FYI http://www.spoon-sports.com (AJ Racing) is a distributor for Spoon...they've been very helpful with my questions.

Is Wesmaster considering putting Spoon parts on his car!?

May I complicate the shock / coilover FAQ?

You might want to differentiate models designated for the S2000 and the custom units. I think you are only going to get Penske shocks and some others through a shop that tailors them to the car. Some will go both ways like my Konis which are custom 8042
