Mine drinks it like it's going out of fashion. I'd say about a half litre every 1000km. Performance is good, no smoke, but lots of condensation on cold days. I've just got used to every 5th fillup being about $100. lol.

I have a MY01, and everything I read about it said it should be drinking oil. I've had the car for 2 years now, always checked the oil when I first got her... she just doesn't consume oil, at all. I use mobil 1 synthetic.

Seems there's big variation from car to car. Anyone know what actually causes the oil burning?

I calculated what mine is using since i've got her.

Average is 1 liter/5000 km. I feel lucky. 2001 AP1, don't know the history of the car. When was your last valve adjustment? PCV valve good? Have you tried a different oil just to see. I know a lot of Mobile 1 users report this problem.

rev to 9k every day.

Yes it is either through the piston rings, valve guides/seals or all of the above. If you are going through an estimated 1 quart per 1000 miles then I would suggest goign to your Honda dealer and having your consuption tracked/measured. My 01 was doing the same. I told Honda and they gave me a milage card to fill out everytime I put oil in at the milage amount, when I hit the factory spec max of 1000 miles. we added up how much oil was consumed and it was over the spec amount at 1 quart burned per 800 miles

I bought the car with 22k miles used with a HOnda Care extended warrentee which thankfully transfered to me the second owner. They pulled the head off and found that i was leaking past the valve guides and rings both, after further inspection they found a couple of the cylinder walls had cracks in them. They replaced the valve guids/seals and mounted the head on top of a brand new complete bottom end from the factory no charge.

So yes our motors consume oil, especially the early ap1's, is it normal, yes and no. If its bad enough you should figure out why. 1q per 1k miles is the max, but I say if its this bad its not great and you do have an issue that will not get any better over time, I would try and get it handled for free through Honda.

I have a 2002 with 27K miles. Running Mobil 1 10/30. Purchased the car last December and tucked it away for the winter. So far this spring I've put about 1000 miles with frequent forays into 8-9K rpm.

So far, my oil level has not moved at all.

Yes, I'm very happy about that. But, I'll keep checking after every run!

I have a 2005 pushing 60,000 miles. I burn no oil. I check it every 1000 miles after reading about others, but the level never dips.

2003 here no burning oil. I guess because I am using amsoil 10w30? My integra gsr used to burn 1.5 quarts every 300 miles, which was such a hassle.

Sorry to hear. You pushing allot of boost for a wile?

Though that does necessarily mean your cooking it past your rings, could be your valve guides/seals if you have a few miles on her.
