It's due to abuse. How you define that is open to discussion.

Abuse is relative.!!
What could be normal use for me,could be abuse for you,and vice/versa.
Noise from the diff, and metal shavings on the drain plug magnet(lots of them),could be a good sign.!!
Change your fluid,and see.!!!
But,why do you ask???

I am not sure I agree.. my diff and a couple of others I am aware of failed without abuse (no launches) or poor maintenance. IMO this unit is just not up to the task, or maybe some did not meet manufacturing standards.. but just because some have held up does not mean all are up to the task.

There is no warning.. it just fails when put under a load.

If I'm not mistaken, you've tracked your car pretty heavily. What kind of fluid change interval have you been doing. I feel that a tracked car needs far more often fluid changes than what might be suggested in the manual.

i to have worries about my diff.
i have noticed lately that i feel some slippage when snatching
gears; almost like clutch slippage.
i just installed a new clutch about 1k so i know this isn't the problem
so my question is does honda or any other warranty we may have
not cover this problem.

I always change the tranny and diff lube once a year, so in six years and 36K miles there have been five or six changes.

My occasional use of track tires may have put a bit more load on the drivetrain as they don't slip as much, but that in itself should not cause a failure.

With no launches and a reasonable amount of hard shifting I would not expect a diff in any car to give up. Back in my drag racing days I put a lot of hard use on a Ford 8.8 in a Mustang with street slicks, and even though it was not a racing piece it was fine. I know what hard use/abuse is and the S2000 was not subjected.

IMO this little diff apparently designed for lighter and weaker Mazdas was just a poor choice for this car.
