Default Small Oil Leak from front of the head

I noticed this oil leak the other day from the hex bolt on the head. I did the obvious thing first and checked to see if the bolt is tight, it was. Any ideas?

DO NOT loosen that bolt!!!! There is an o-ring behind it, but you need to open the valve cover and follow the steps on the Helms to change it. That bolt keeps one of the cam gears or something in there in place.

you could apply the proper torque to it and see if it helps, that's what I would try first. I could search the torque value in the service manual if you want to pm me.

In addition to torqueing the hex bolt down to spec, I would also apply some rtv gasket maker.

Let me do some homework for you..I have an engine on the stand at home, I'll see if it can be done easily.

I know at a minimum, you will need to remove the TCT (timing chain tensioner)

It may be possible to loosen that bolt just far enough to expose the o-ring, replace it, and run it back in.

But as others have said DO NOT remove it just yet or the gear and washer will drop inside the engine.

Stay tuned....I will check it tomorrow... It's safe to drive, it couldn't hurt to put an allen key in there (8mm or 5/16) and be sure its tight.

I'm talking about the obvious spot the oil is leaking from lol. It has a hex center.

Andy,

I had the same issue with mine where the oil was leaking from that bolt. R1_Pilot is correct there is an o-ring behind there. My Honda Master Technician replaced the o-ring behind the bolt by pulling the bolt out slightly until he was able to see the o-ring and stopped. Used a tool to remove the old o-ring and placed the new one on and tighten it back up and no more leaks. Took him roughly 5 mins to do the job. He stated that the bolt is very long and you only need to loosen it just enough to see the o-ring and stop right as you see it. Replace it and tighten it back up. He said if you pull that bolt out all the way bad things will happen. Hope that helps.
