Smashed Bell Housing
Hey Guys, see picture of a transmission that I bought, but in transit got damaged:
https://i1106.photobucket.com/albums...psorbz6aeg.jpg Question: I have a bell housing off my original transmission. If i want to swap it over, can i just remove the bell housing? This would involve removing the ring of bolts from tranny to bell housing and opening the circlip that holds the input shaft bearing in the bell housing, while shaking the transmission? Is there anything else that stop the housing being removed in this manner. I just don't want to tackle it from the other side, that would involve stripping the whole transmission... Thanks. |

Ok, but why? What will stop me from removing the bell housing on it's own?

The entire transmission is built onto the bell housing. Both shafts, and all the mounts for the shift shafts. A pic will make it clearer. Slows2k is correct. It can be done, but it all has to be done from the opposite end. You can try it, but I think the shift fork actuator plates (mounted to the bell housing) will make it impossible. |
Thanks Billman, i'll dissemble it from the other end so. Just a bit more work. I'll do it over the weekend and post some pics.

One tip, do not remove the tailshaft nut. The tail housing, shaft, flange, and nut come off as one. |
