Some '04 performance specs !!!
>>>Ok my question is does this mean the 2004 is faster than the 2003 thats all I need to know....I need numbers 0 to 60 , 1/4mile times and also topspeed......<<<
The cars may or may not perform roughly the same in such all-out tests.
Most likely, there will be larger real-world differences in below vtec driving. For example one magazine found 0-60 to take ~5.5 seconds with a high rev clutch drop and max rev shifts. Yet it took 11 seconds using a ~5500 RPM limit. The '04 is likely to do far better than the earlier cars in such a test. You can really notice that sort of thing in traffic conditions.
I also wonder if the transition to vtec may be more gradual. That might feel less exciting yet be faster. Perhaps easier to control if you're on wet road.

"In time-to-speed terms, Honda claims the new car can accelerate from 20-50 mph in 4.5 seconds (using only 3rd gear), vs 5.1 seconds for the outgoing model. In the 15-45 mph (2nd gear only) sprint, the '04 runs 4.5 seconds vs 5.0 seconds for the outgoing model."
Compare that to a pre '04 4.44 or 4.77 geared S2000. Should be interesting. I would think the 4.77 would be faster using these measurements.

marketing hype
In gear tests are good for many things but not for performance comparison between cars.
North American MY04 1st to 4th gears maximum speed is 15% lower than the same gears on previous models. Now, there's a performance impact! Want a proof? Ok, I bet a million that I can beat any MY04 with a non modified MY00 or 01 or 02 on a 160 to 190km/h run without even a hint of sweat.
Any takers?
