Default Some Test Pipe Questions

Well, I didn't find what I was looking for with the search so here goes:

1 - Why do the test pipes cost $100+? Seems to be just a slightly bent tube that any exhaust shop could make for less than $100 easy.

2 - What are people doing about the MIL?

3 - I used to have a mustang and there were these simulators that would plug into the 02 sensor and then to the wires that would make it look like a normal signal. Anything like that for the S?

1. Brand name.

2. Are you referring to the CEL? I have the Mugen ECU, so I do not get the CEL with the test pipe.

3. Yes.

Thanks for the quick reply JL. Where can i find a simulator for my S at?

I've always heard the Check Engine Light was actually considered a Malfunction Indicator Light and that's what everyone on the Mustang forums call it. Suppose it doesn't really matter though. All the same thing. hehe.

Someone made a post about this earlier, I believe they stated you need a 5 wire simulator and not a 3. Or maybe he was reffering to the o2 sensor itself... Another option is to pull the backup fuse from the fuse panel. However people say the car will not run well if you do this.

no true working simulator for our car yet. I have asked some folks and also PMd Modifry who states the same response. Caspers unit eventually will eventually throw a CEL...I have the same problem and will be turning to a wideband due to turbo mod. Good Luck...

I'm sure this has been posted before, but what happens if you just install the second O2 sensor in the test pipe? What (if any) CEL codes do you get?

Assuming the s2000 has two o2 sensors like an Integra, then the first o2 sensor is used for reading the A/F ratio, and the second is used only for emissions. In which case if you were to only run the second one, your car would run poorly.

I assumed that the 1st O2 sensor would remain in the exhaust manifold. A test pipe removes the Cat which the second O2 sensor bolts into the middle of.

To rephase my question. Is there a problem leaving the 1st O2 sensor in the original position and installing the second O2 sensor in the test pipe?
