Default Something is not right..help please

hi guys. my name is david and ive been an s2000 owner for nearly a year. this is my first post on s2ki. i came across something and i thought id ask here to try and find an answer.

by now i feel very comfortable with my ap1, knowing how it drives, handles, etc.. the other day i drove my mates ap1 (practically same mileage, and completely stock like mine). the weird thing is, his seems to have half the power as mine. both our cars are completely stock with no modificatios at all.

what can be the reason for this? i seemed to notice that my vtec engages much stronger and pulls like twice as hard, whereas his feels sluggish when it hits the vtec. what can be the reason for this? i couldnt explain it..

i might also add his clutch felt rather 'spongy' if u know what i mean. when u push it down it felt like it was engaging in steps, it wasnt smooth. i also heard clicking noises when pushing down his clutch. could that be the reason? maybe his clutch is very close to wearing out and not utilising the power from the engine?

any reasons u guys could come up with would be great. thanks for ur time..

you should do a compression test to start.

And try checking the MAP sensor connection.

It doesn't really seem necessary. You can tell by driving it that it doesn't have the right amount of power. A dyno will confirm that, but it wont tell you what is causing it. I'd do a compression test. Find the DIY thread in this forum and start there. You're looking for around 240 lbs. The thread is floating around the top so it shouldn't be hard to locate.

Post results.

I suggest you try checking the MAP sensor connection. Did you do that? When my MAP sensor connection is bad, I often get hesitation, particularly above 6K RPMs. Sometimes it feels like somebody just dropped an anchor and the car hardly pulls in that rev range.

yes we checked the map sensor conection, we even took it out and did the 'map whack' and cleaned the connection a bit.. no difference spotted.. im beginning to think its a mechanical issue.. maybe the flywheel or something..

Eh. This is very unlikely. Compression test results?

Possibly bad injectors? It could even be your O2 sensors. I heard of this messing with the power on a vette. If it is broken, it could be telling the car the incorrect fuel air mixture.

well here in aus.. u have a choice of unleaded, premium unleaded , and then theres high octane (98). its recommended u use minimum premium unleaded in the s2000 (well thats what it says in the handbook)..

i know that only 98 octane has been used in the car and nothing else, so only the best possible fuel is used..

on another note.. i drove it again like 15 mins ago.. when u rev just before letting go of the clutch, the noise sounds weird. it doesnt have the grunt or the normal revving sound u hear.. it sounds like marbles in a can or a high pitched rev sound coming from under the transmission..
