Default Something wrong with my engine?

Today I was gunning my car and right b4 the vtec kicks in... the engine would not go anymore. I mean i could still put it into 2nd and go to 3rd.. 4th..ect.. But when i slam on the gas pedal, and right before i hit 7000 the engine just decelerates. Does anyone know what the problem may be?

I assume it was cold? (Not 3 bars on the temp meter)

If that was the case, then it was the rev limiter that will not allow VTEC when cold. it is by design.

Not the weather, your engine. The temp gauge must be at 3 bars, or the rev limiter kick in.

exactly, it doesnt matter how cold or hot the temperature is outside, if you push it without letting it fully warm up, you are asking for trouble. Of course, the weather outside will affect how quickly it reaches full operating temperatures to an extent, but my guess is you didnt have 3 bars on the temp gauge. Also, remember that even if you get to 3 bars right away it still may not be FULLY warmed up and it might be a good idea to drive a little light until well after the 3rd bar has come on. The reason vtec cars do not enable vtec until they have reached a feasable operating temperature is so they will not rev that high when they are cold.

I'm assuming this only happens when your engine is cold. I won't drive past 3.5 rpm if I don't see 3 bars on the temp gauge. Even then I'll wait another minute or so before any spirited driving.
