Follow-up question...

I have a MY05 AP2 with 53K miles. I asked the dealer for new spark plugs this weekend and I was told that unless I have a problem with them, I shouldn't change them until 100K miles. The price was about $95 for the set, so I thought I'd do some research first.

Has any AP2 owner here changed their plugs before 100K miles? If so, did you find anything wrong with the original plugs? Also, did you buy the OEM plugs? Did you notice any improvement in performance?

Thanks.

Pulstar. 75 bucks for 4. Just Google a coupon code before you buy it.

I just changed my plugs at 41K. I did it while I was having the valves adjusted, since the plugs had to come out anyway. The tech said they still had some life left on them, but that really doesn't matter to me. I got burnt recently on my G35 by waiting until my warranty expired before changing the plugs. At 60K, there was a spark plug tube O-ring failure that was allowing oil to fill the tube. I had to replace the valve cover just to fix the $0.05 O-ring. I just read a UOA on BITOG from another G35 owner that had to replace both valve covers at 60K for the same problem. Maybe it's just a VQ35DE engine problem, but I can see why the manufacturers want you to wait until 100K+ miles before changing the platinum plugs. The plugs might be able to go the distance, but the O-ring seals are suspect evidently.

Thanks for the tips. I will change the plugs on my S2K this weekend.

I also have a G35 and I will change the plugs on it on the 30K-mile mark. It's a MY06 with 18K miles.
