The trick to gapping an Iridium plug is to not pry against the
brittle center electrode, but to carefully open the softer ground
electrode to the proper gap. You can also lightly tap the ground
electrode to close the gap if it's necessary.
Next Point, It is common knowledge amoung the MR-2 community that
Iridiums are prone to break off their tips in a boosted engine that
encounters detonation, while a good copper plug will handle the heat
and provide a "safety net" in the event of any detonation.
I changed the plugs in my S2000, (NGK coppers) in about 10
minutes. Why would anyone want to keep a spark plug for 500,000
miles when they are so easy to change?
No fine wire plug is going to out-perform a copper plug, No way.
The Plats and Iridiums are good for extended mileage, but are
a performance compromise, in my opinion.
