Default speedometer flickering

I recently bought a MY04 ap2 and noticed that when i turn the lights on, the speedometer and all the bars and everything flickers. it's not that noticeable but enough for me to notice it. it dims and brightens every half a second and it's sort of annoying. is this normal and if its not is there anything i can do to fix it? thanks.

does this flicker happen when you are in a warm idle? if it is its the alternators rectifier assembly which needs to be R2`d

Alternator is the usual suspect for flickering dash.

you dont need the alternator replaced. you just need the rectifier replaced. why buy a new $1000 part when you can fix it with a $150 part?

where is an s2000 alternator a 1000 bucks? You can buy a alternator with lifetime warranty for proly less than 200 bucks at an autoparts store. Get the alternator tested first to make sure. If you want take it to get tested for free take it out and bring to autozone. I always check and alternator really easily by starting the car and removing the positive battery cable and if the car stays running the alternator is ok if not replace it.

is it bad for my car if i don't replace it? it's pretty expensive just to fix flickering lights. i only notice this when i set the speedometer on the brightest setting. are there any consequences later on if i do not change this? also, i think i still have 7yrs/100k miles powertrain warranty that came with the car when i bought it used (not sure if its transferrable), will that cover it?
