well...I duno about U.S but in Canada, I just need to avoid to use box which there is a made in Japan on it and use replacement parts....and for that I dun pay tax up til now.......I order header, eyelid, ecu from them for my friends......and also they know it might be charge for duty tax so they will as well put less cost price on the receipt...
o ok....my bad...
If you order stuff from Japan, for example spoon...they will use a spoon box to ship the stuff right.......I asked them to use to plain box which nothing is on the box.....and ask them to put down as a replacement parts....I did that and I never get charge for duty tax.......

that is correct. I've sent pieces like that to other countries. however, when I mark them as such, I must specifically mark them as "defective replacement parts" - which is just replacement parts for defective products. thus, the customer doesn't get taxed on the items. BUT!... when doing this, the value marked is usually only one dollar per item. so, if anything gets lost or damaged en route - it is not covered.
not sure what kind of 'deal' you worked out, but that's my experience, and yes, I've even worked with TK in the past with products. they aren't what they used to be.
