Thumbs down Spun a bearing ...

So last night I spun a bearing in my number two cylinder. Got a tow to the dealer at 3:30 a.m. and got a call from them this morning with the bad news. The "advisor" told me that I would definitely need a new short block ($2192 after my discount because I work at a Lexus dealership) and POSSIBLY a new cylinder head ($2557). Then $1800 labor on top of that. I haven't authorized them to do any work yet or order any parts so I just wanted to hear some other opinions and input from some members. Any input and comments would be greatly appreciated!! Please help a very dissapointed S2000 owner!!

Why did you get a spun bearing? How low was your oil level?

I dont see why you would need to replace the head for a spun bearing.

I don't know. He said it was either revving too high (didn't do) or a mis-shift (didn't do). I didn't redline a couple times last night but I've done that many times.

I didn't think so either but that's what he told me ... I'm simply just relaying what the advisor at the dealer told me.

Did they tear the motor apart? Exactly what is wrong with the head? It sounds like he's just pulling stuff out of his ass. Are you confident in his diagnosis that it's a spun bearing?

They did tear the motor apart. I'm going to look at it later today and take some pix which I will post up here. I don't know if I'm necessarily confident in his diagnosis, but then again I don't think I could diagnose it myself.

Yeah, running out of oil gets real expensive, real quick. I won't repost what I posted before in your other identical topic. Not being mechanically inclined, you're at their mercy.

What kind of outcome are you looking for? It looks like it's going to be expensive no matter what you do. For the price, you might want to look into a JDM swap engine for it. $3700-4500 or so with tranny. Then sell the tranny for $1200 and the ECU for whatever you can get.
