Coming out of Infineon T6 (Carrousel) I spun when I got on the gas too soon and looped it. Once I was sideways (at around 70mph) I put in the clutch and brake pedals until the sliding stopped. Ended up backwards (so really was just a 180) on the dirt before the tire wall on the left side. ABS light was immediately on (never stalled the engine), and I had no ABS. Back in the paddock I found all fuses good and no apparent damage to the wheel sensors. Even disconnected the battery for about 5 minutes, ABS still not working and light is on. Any thoughts on where to look next?

It happened to me but to another car, the ABS came back to normal after 3 days by itself

 

Did you clean the sensors? You (or the Honda dealer) can test that the sensors are actually reading (and identify the broken one). Sometimes the ABS wires leading from the sensors can pull and fracture. They're pretty fragile.

 

I did drive several more laps with the light on and ABS not working, turned the car on-and-off several times, and disconnected the battery. Nothing helped reset it. All fuses are OK. A quick visual inspection of the sensor wires while in the paddock didn't discover any damage, though I'll have to inspect them in more detail once I have time (Christmas?). My fear is that the modulator has gone bad, it's ~$1300 to replace.

 

I seriously, seriously doubt it's the modulator.

Pull each wheel and disconnect, inspect and clean each sensor. 10mm socket.

Then go from there. ABS wires can fracture within their rubber sleeves, so having sleeves that look okay is no guarantee of function.

 

You can pull the code by shorting two pins on the odbii connector. From code that flashes you can use the helms manual to isolate the issue.

 

Do what strato said jump pins 4 to 9. Watch the light, get your codes.

 

Thanks, guys. I might pull the car out tomorrow and pull the codes just to see if it points to a wheel sensor. Won't be able to pull the wheels and take a more detailed look at the sensors and wires until Christmas, but at least I can partially satisfy my curiosity. Good to hear the high-cost problem is not that likely. I'll post what the code is once I find out...

 

Non-Us owners - and maybe others - should do this differently.
In my Dutch (Euro) service manual they say to use the 2-pin SCS service connector under the steering colomn to get & clear ABS codes.
Clearing codes by pressing the brake pedal & turning the ignition key etc. in a certain order is the same.
Or use the official Honda PGM-tester.
