a squeak or a rubbing sound
I have been trying to search through everywhere and I haven't found anything yet. But maybe someone will be able to help here.
I get this squeak or a rubbing sound and it is coming from the back of the car. Maybe from the diff area, but it almost sounds more like it is coming from the driver's side. I know that sounds are very hard to describe over the internet. But I don't think getting a recording will help. I just don't think it is loud enough. I don't think it is a wheel bearing, because it doesn't quite sound like that, and I don't notice it when the car is moving.
I don't notice it all the time. And it is only when I just start moving, and only for a split second.
It almost sounds as if I have the parking brake set and I try to move. (which I don't.
)
I don't daily drive the car usually, but I have been the last few weeks. In the last month or so, I have done a driver's skills day and an auto cross day. I think I first noticed the sound after the driver's skill day, but then I didn't notice it for a while after that. Now I have been noticing it more and more. But other than that, I don't drive the car very hard. Spirited driving, but no clutch dumps or burnouts.
I am going to be doing some service this weekend on it, and hoping that changing the diff fluid will help some. But has anyone else had an experience like this? Again, it is only coming when the car is at a complete stop and just starting to move. I've looked at the brake pads, and they are still in good condition. Maybe 1/2 pad on the rears and almost full pad on front.
Are there any places I should check that maybe need to be lubed? I've read through the lube job sticky and will be doing that soon...once the weather gets a little better.
