Anyone ever experience squeaky strut mounts in the rear? My 00 with 85K miles recently started squeaking very loud on every bump. I thought it was the shocks dying so I replaced the shocks/springs with some fresh takeoffs from an 02 car. Then I noticed a bushing was slightly torn so I bought a bushing and took it to a shop to get it replaced.

They called me and said that they thing it's a shock mount up top. The noise did seem to come from higher up in the trunk area. I'm wondering if it's common to have a strut mount failure at this kind of mileage. Car has been autocrossed for nearly it's entire life.

What do you think?

The fresh shock/spring assembly (?) came with fresh bushings and all.
That leaves upper/lower a-arm bushings.
Where did that torn bushing come from?

 

I wasn't thinking right and forgot the whole assembly that was probably worn out was part of the old coilover I took out.

The torn bushing is in the upper control arm, I guess I should be asking if that's a common failure point. The other 3 upper control arm bushings look fine but the one on the right side on the pass side looks bad. The mechanic took a stethescope (sp?) and said he could hear squeaking from both the pass side bushings even though only 1 looks torn.

Guess I'll have to order another one and just do that whole side. Or is it cheaper to get a whole UCA and bolt it in myself?

 

What is a "UCA"?

Don't forget to pre-load the suspension before tightning the bolts up to spec'd torque.

Anyway..
Replacing the UCA involves poppin' the UABJ (Upper Arm Ball Joint).
Do you have the AT (Appropriate Tool) for that?

i have the same problem but with only 27000 miles on MY01. found out exactly what it is yet?

 

I don't have the proper ball joint removal tool, is it a generic tool I can rent at autozone or honda specific? At this point it has to be the bushings in the upper control arm, I'll replace them when I get around to it.

We autocrossed the car last weekend and it stopped squeaking for about 3 days then came back.

I did but they didn't do anything. 1 shop had no idea what they were looking for and the second thought it was the bushings as a "guess". I wasn't about to pay 150 bucks to let him tear into the car and guess some more. Probably just going to buy a whole UCA with fresh bushings pre-installed and change it out.
