SRS system routing and function
Ok,
Here is the deal. The driver side airbag was disconnected. I plugged it back in and the SRS light was on from it. At least that is what I thought. Now I went to the S2000 talk and blew up the photo that described the SRS light reset. I even went out and bought the Honda specified jumper. Now I went through the DTC clearing procedures and got the two blinks from the system. Now from here I don't see any directions. I turned off the ignition plugged back in the connector and then waited ten seconds. When I say I plugged back in the connector it has a spot for it in the fuse box. It just doesn't go anywhere that I can tell. Then I started the car. The SRS light was still on. So here are my questions.
1.Could something have come disconnected from the front end when the bumper was off?
2.Can the AEM system effect the SRS somehow?
3.What makes up the system? Can anyone provide a picture of where the connectors are so I can make sure they are all connected?
4. If there is really something wrong. What can actually go wrong? A sensor or something out of wack.
5.Will the sytem work in a collision even though the light is on? What about a premature opening.
6. If I really don't care at the moment about the SRS system can I just disconnect the airbags and leave it or does this effect something else like the seatbelts functioning correctly? Should I go out and hit the brakes quickly to see if the seat belt locks up?
Thanks all in advance. I am trying to get rather technical if I can about the SRS sytem. Not just the basics. Before I go and spend a crap load of money at a Honda dealership that wants nothin but money I would like to trouble shoot the issue myslef if I can.

It can be a pain in the ass to reset it according to the manual. I seem to remember doing it once and as I remember, the time intervals described don't seem quite right. The easiest way is with the dealer's HDS. Just tell them that you had an airbag disconnected and the light is on.
1)is is extremely unlikely. Its made to keep working if you hit something, so its all quite securely attatched.
2) No. Not unless you pinched a wire but they're not really in the same neck of the woods.
3) There are 2 sensors behind the bumper, 2 bags, a control unit under the stereo and chances are they're all fine.
4) Lots of things. They're probably all fine.
5) Probably, but don't count on it just in case... There COULD be a problem, its just unlikely.
6)The belts will lock up fine, that's just a mechanical system. Its been a while, but I don't think the belts have pyrotechnic pretensioners.
to clear the light, they should charge you a maximum of .6 of an hour. Honestly.

A few corrections for your 00-05 car. 06's have some more changes.
3. There are no seperate impact sensors behind any bumper. thye are built into the control unit.
6.The belts have pretensioners, and mechanical inertia locks.
If the SRS light is on a DTC will be stored. Chances are you still have a problem, but you have to short the SCS pins on the ALDL connector to manually get the flash code. otherwise you need access to the OEM scan tools.

Ok so if I understand this correctly the control unit under the dash has the sensors. The two airbags are connected to the system and there is nothing in an 02 model year that is outside the cabin. So if the short module doesn't work then something else in the system is unhappy?
Thanks for the fast replies.

Oh,
What if I just unplug the system? What then besides it won't work?
Does the light in the dash need a signal to turn on but if the system is off completely?
I mean the plugs and the system fuse.
So is the SRS system completely independant from the ECU?

Ok. I am back to try and get this one. I got the jumper and it resets the light for like two seconds then the light comes back on. Where and how many go to the seatbelts? I have the seatbelt plug under the driver seat plugged back in and the airbags are plugged in. I have seen in my searches of seatbelt plugs that run through the center console. Can someone please elaborate on the location of the plugs.
So If I understand this correctly there is two airbag plugs and two seatbelt plugs that are through the center console that complete the SRS system.
Thanks
Chris

The seat belt tensioners plug in behind the roolhoops. If you pull the trunk lining and spare tire out you can see them.
You still need the DTC that is stored to determine what part of the system is at fault.

I completely understand. If all the connections are in fact connected then I am taking it into the dealer for code pulling for I don't have the unit to do so. I do have the jumper reset and the steering bag was unplugged at one time. I just want to make sure before I go in for code pulling that I have all the plugs in.
Thank You for the location of the plugs slows2k.
