^the PCV valve is a little valve on top of your valve covers. It allows blow-by gasses caused by difference in pressure from atmosphere vs. crankcase to equilibriate. Its basically what you see on old V8s being vented to atmosphere, except due to the whole 'emissions' deal, they route it to the intake, requiring a valve to make it a one way deal.

Positive crankcase ventilation valve, i think it stands for..?

~just pick it off the top of your valve cover, its near the fuel rails. Shake it a couple times, if it doesnt 'click' you need a new one. Since its so cheap you might as well pick one up.
so this is something A Non mechanic like myself can handle without fear of messing anything up?

Pretty much. Just be careful with the hoses, they might be getting older/frayed, which would also be a good thing to replace IF they are damaged. just pop off, replace, pop in, make sure its seated properly, and you're done. if you cant find it, im sure someone can find a pic or you can search for a pic easily.

I have the SAME issue that started around SAME exact mileage on my 2004 AP2. I hit vtec all the time and never dropped oil level untill now.

It started around 75k, I am at about 83k miles, Valve adjustment done couple days ago and PCV valve changed @ 80k.

I was almost a whole quart low after3k miles.

I try to vtech at least once daily. I go through about 1 quart every 1500 miles. I just wait till it at the bottom x and put more in. I usually change the oil every 5k with castrol gtx. I figure I'm constantly putting in fresh oil anyways. Doesn't the owner's manual say to change the oil every 7500 and the filter every 15k? I would never go that long. Though, I haven't read it in a while. I bought my car at 60k and it has about 70k now.

HA!

Welcome to the problem most ap1's experience anyway.

perhaps your engine is just showing some wear. ap2's have different ring part numbers, which might be attributable to the ap2's less oil consumption compared to ap1's, so perhaps there's a less seal over time...perhaps the valve guides are getting worn, it could be a variety of things...just keep the oil topped off, and if it's less than 1 quart per 1k miles, it may be fine.

you can try a leakdown test to see if you find anything...other than that, removing the head and having it inspected would discover more details as to what is going on.

1/3 quart per 3k miles is really nothing at all for an s2k.

I am in the 1Qt per 1000 mile club my self.

I have 118,000miles and have consumed oil like that for at least the past 80,000 miles with no real issues aside from needing to add fresh oil.

I started and oil consumption test but Honda would not accept the warranty claim unless it was 1 Qt per 900 miles.

^
krank vents had me at 0 oil consumption, but i didn't like the vacuum it created.

what i used now had cut my oil consumption by at least half, if not more ... i run a breather filter, a supra pcv valve, and 5w40.
